How to communicate with a rude insurance adjuster

Not many things in life are worse than getting hurt or having your car damaged in a wreck. One of the more frustrating things that can happen as a result is dealing with a rude insurance adjuster.

Adjusters don't always have an job. They are hired by the insurance company to resolve claims as quickly as possible, while saving as much money as possible. However we don't believe that any of this gives them the right to be rude to someone who has themselves or had a family member been injured in an accident.

Rude insurance adjusters may do any number of things. They may tell you that your claim is being denied, or not worth much money before they even hear about your injuries. They might call you repeatedly and use high pressure tactics to get you to sign a release. They might try to make you feel like your injuries are your own fault, even when the other driver caused the accident.

First off, no one is required to talk to deal with an insurance adjuster who is being rude. You have several options that can help:

  • Ask for the adjuster's supervisor. Report the rude behavior and request a different adjuster be assigned to your claim
  • Only accept calls when it is convenient for you, and you are not under the influence of pain medications
  • Prepare for your calls in advance, and have documentation and important information available to support your position
  • Insist that all communications be in writing
  • Hire a personal injury attorney to handle the negotiations on your behalf
